CHICAGO COLLEGE OF PHARMACY - STUDENTS RECEIVE INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION
AND TEAM-BUILDING SKILLS
The Chicago College of Pharmacy prides itself on the priority placed on
the education of future pharmacists. The College faculty are accessible
and available to meet with students who require additional assistance
to understand course-related materials. The College also promotes the
development of interpersonal and team building skills so that its graduates
will be competent in dealing with all members of the health care team.
The College's curriculum includes a well-integrated collection of lecture
courses, which are delivered by a team of experienced and knowledgeable
faculty. Beginning with the first professional year, students are introduced
into patient care settings and observe the role and responsibilities of
pharmacists, and can understand how their lecture coursework is necessary
to pharmacists in the care of patients and in the educational services
provided to other health care professionals. Through a series of experiential
rotations or clerkships in a variety of practice settings, which increase
in complexity and intensity throughout the curriculum, students acquire
the knowledge and skills to be competent pharmacists who are able to meet
their patients' needs. Nearly 92 to 96% of recent Chicago College of Pharmacy
graduates passed the 2003 NAPLEX exam the first time, generally surpassing
the national mean. Many choose careers at community pharmacies and hospitals--moving
quickly into management. Average 2003 starting salaries in community practice:
$85,000 to $90,000 and hospital practice: $80,000 to $85,000.
The commitment of the faculty, administration, and staff to students and
their pharmacy education is our pledge of quality.
