PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

UACP serves society through pharmaceutical education, service, and scholarship.  UACP provides access to pharmacy education to the citizens of Central Appalachia and to individuals committed to the needs of rural and underserved communities in our country and throughout the world. UACP’s three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program educates pharmacy students to understand and overcome the challenges of rural health care. Through active participation in community health education and rural outreach clinics, students endeavor to improve the quality of life of the underserved members of their communities and to foster life-long learning.

UACP offers Virginia's only three-year Doctor of Pharmacy Program.  UACP’s mission is to prepare pharmacists to provide excellent patient-centered pharmaceutical care and system management to meet 21st century healthcare needs, with a focus on meeting needs of rural underserved populations in Central Appalachia and other similar areas.  In order to support our mission all UACP students are required to complete 150 hours of community service while enrolled.  UACP students use traditional and non-traditional health care delivery systems (e.g., telemedicine, outreach health fairs, free clinics, etc.) to deliver pharmaceutical care and preventive medicine to medically underserved, disparately-affected citizens in rural communities.
