PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Creighton University is a Jesuit institution which is centered on values
and focused on students. Our faculty and students represent widely varying
educational, professional and cultural backgrounds. Creighton has long
been recognized as an innovator in the health professions, as evidenced
by the strength of our two pharmacy pathways.
Creighton's pharmacy program offers two pathways to achieve the Doctor
of Pharmacy degree. Students may choose between the traditional, campus pathway and the distance pathway. Campus and distance students
are provided with laptop computers whose use is incorporated into classroom
lectures, tests, presentations, laboratory experiences, and pharmacy clinical
rotations. Students find the laptop component increases communication
among themselves and their instructors by connecting them to the learning
community at anytime, from anywhere.
The distance pathway has been offered since the fall of 2001. The program
is ACPE accredited with course loads that range from 16-18 hours per semester
including 2 weeks of summer intensive laboratory experiences. The fourth
year consists of eight five-week, full-time clinical rotations that are
ideally arranged in the student's geographical area.
Creighton's innovative Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum centers around reviewing
and communicating drug information, resolving medication usage issues,
patient counseling, developing pharmacy care plans, assessing and delivering
medication therapy, understanding how drugs work and react, patient monitoring
and compliance, and evaluating and documenting patient outcomes. Strong
basic knowledge anchored in empathic caring for the whole person is stressed.
Upon graduation, Creighton's students will carry with them a sense of
service grounded in a high quality education. Graduates enter practice
with strong basic knowledge, communication skills, critical thinking abilities
and an empathic attitude toward their patients. Please visit our website
at http://pharmacy.creighton.edu
to learn more about our pharmacy program and our admission process.
