PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The College of Pharmacy at the Ohio State University, established in
1885, has been a leader in pharmacy education throughout its history.
Located within the most comprehensive academic medical center in America,
the College of Pharmacy provides access to the University’s vast
resources and the advantages of enrollment in a relatively small academic
environment. The College’s reputation emanates from the strength
of its faculty and staff, student body, facilities, library, practice
sites, curriculum, research enterprise, and contributions to practice
and scholarship.
Doctor of Pharmacy Program
The Doctor of Pharmacy is a four-year graduate-professional program designed
to prepare students for pharmacy licensure and practice. Students entering
this program are now required to complete a Bachelor’s degree prior
to matriculation. Admission is competitive with the applicant required
to complete the core math/science classes as well as a general education
curriculum.
Doctor of Pharmacy classes incorporate lecture, laboratory and recitation
sections. Pedagogical techniques include large and small group activities,
case study workshops, and professional experience program rotations precepted
by clinical faculty within ambulatory and inpatient practice sites. Part-time
practical experience activities are conducted during the first and third
years of the curriculum, and full-time practical experience constitutes
the entire fourth academic year. Combined degree programs for PharmD/MS,
MBA, MPH or PhD are available for qualified applicants.
The Health Sciences Center
The Ohio State University houses the most comprehensive Health Sciences
Center in America. Academic programs include Dentistry, Medicine and Public
Health, Nursing, Optometry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, and the School
of Allied Medical Professions. Clinical facilities include University
Hospitals and Clinics, the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Solove
Research Institute, University Hospital East, the Children's Medical Center,
OSU and Harding Behavioral Healthcare and Medicine, the Veterinary Teaching
Hospitals, Dental Clinic, Optometry Clinic, and University Health Connection
(located in the College of Pharmacy).
