Program Description
-------------------
Program Description:
The COP offers the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree, which is a 2 + 4 program. Students must complete 2 years of pre-professional coursework, which includes general education courses as well as prescriptive courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and math. This is followed by 4 years in the professional Pharm.D. program at SWOSU, which includes didactic and experiential courses in the pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice. During the first two summers students participate in introductory pharmacy practice experiences in Community and Institutional settings. The fourth year of the professional program includes 9 full-time, structured advanced pharmacy practice experiences at off-campus pharmacy practice sites. The College of Pharmacy Admissions Committee utilizes a standardized admission process. Overall grade point average (minimum of a 2.50), science and mathematics grade point average, along with interview criteria, and objective data are used in the selection process. Although not required, PCAT, ACT and SAT scores submitted by applicants are considered supplemental and may be used to enhance the application. Students are admitted to the professional Pharm.D. program in the Fall and Spring semesters. Approximately eighty-five students are admitted to the professional Pharm.D. program each year. Faculty in the COP provide instruction in all the courses in the professional Pharm.D. program. Graduates of the COP at SWOSU continue to perform above average on the NAPLEX, the national licensing examination for pharmacy.
