Program Description
-------------------
Program Description:
Larkin University was founded in 2013 and is a private, not-for-profit university located in Miami, Florida. The LU College of Pharmacy is a year-round, three-year block program. Our mission is to be innovative and engaged in teaching, scholarship, and service while preparing compassionate healthcare professionals to practice in current, emerging, and diverse settings. The design of the curriculum provides for ample contact time with faculty. The block curriculum incorporates topics related to anatomical systems and disease states into one course enabling the student to focus efforts on learning in one or two courses at a time. Course faculty ensure that the student can integrate knowledge throughout the curriculum while incorporating professional attitudes and skills. We offer interprofessional and professional development opportunities across the three years to ensure that the LU graduate is prepared to practice within healthcare teams. In a typical day, the student attends class in person for discussion with faculty, engages with their classmates, and has opportunities to study with their peers. There are several National professional organizations on campus just waiting for you to become a member and begin to lead the profession. During the first and third years of the program, students are engaged in settings such as community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and other areas of practice. The LU College of Pharmacy is affiliated with many teaching hospitals and clinics in Florida and other states as well as a variety of practice opportunities such as psychiatry, oncology, Federal pharmacy, pharmacy organizations, pharmaceutical industry, and others. Students who wish to remain in Miami and Broward counties for the duration of their training will be able to do so.
