Program Description

Program Description:
A Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University prepares you to provide a level of care that treats the whole person. Expand your knowledge of disease state management, prevention of disease, patient outcomes and wellness in a program that reflects changes in the practice of pharmacy in pharmaceutical care.

In 2001, Creighton University started the first accredited Distance Pathway, providing a full-time method to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, designed so students can complete a Doctor of Pharmacy program from wherever they are located. Our innovative distance learning pathway covers the same material as the traditional program, but offers students the flexibility of completing coursework using distance education technology. Students complete laboratory courses and other activities in Omaha during two-week sessions each summer of enrollment. Clinical settings for our PharmD students are diverse and numerous. We have over 1000 established relationships with clinical sites across the United States and internationally, with over 30 elective opportunities to choose from, including unique opportunities in Medication Therapy Management. Graduates of the program are well positioned for employment in a wide range of health service settings, including private businesses, hospitals, clinics, government, military and academic and research institutions. The biology, chemistry, and organic chemistry courses must be a two-semester, eight-hour or equivalent course sequences. A course sequence is considered to be a correlated pair of courses offering in-depth coverage of a specific field and must be at a level such that the courses would be acceptable as prerequisites to advance towards a baccalaureate degree in that discipline. For chemistry and biology courses, survey courses, courses without associated laboratories, and courses designed for non-science majors are not acceptable as prerequisite science courses.

A 3 semester hour/4.5 quarter hour course in calculus, physics or quantitative chemistry can be used to fill that specific prerequisite. Pre-calculus, survey of calculus and brief calculus will not fulfill this requirement.
