Program Description

The University of Texas at El Paso School of Pharmacy (SoP) is committed to preparing IDEAL pharmacists to meet the needs of a 21st century demographic. Our vision is "to be a pioneer in the advancement of pharmacy education through Innovation, Diversity, Engagement, Access, and Leadership (IDEAL) in our community and beyond." The UTEP SoP Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum provides unique experiences to prepare its students. Some examples are:
- Training in Technical Pharmacy Spanish
- Study away/Study abroad experiences in locations such as Washington D.C., Nashville TN, Presidio TX, Ireland, Egypt, Spain
- Research Methods
- Robust interprofessional activities with nursing, medical, physical therapy, and other healthcare students

Applicants who have earned a bachelor's degree must complete all math and science prerequisites, and the Spanish placement exam, but Core Curriculum requirements will be automatically marked complete.

Applicants who are applying from another Texas institution of higher education, and do not have a bachelor's degree, please see the Transfer student policies on the above page for rules on how your core curriculum will be accepted.

The Spanish prerequisite can be completed by taking any college-level Spanish course, AP credit, dual credit, CLEP exam, or by taking the Spanish placement exam and placing into SPAN II or higher.

Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI)

The UTEP School of Pharmacy (SoP) interview process consists of a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) and the Health Science Reasoning Test (HSRT).
