Program Description
The D’Youville College School of Pharmacy (DYSOP) is planning to offer a 3-year online pathway towards the Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) beginning Fall 2021, pending approval by its programmatic accreditor, The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the New York State Department of Education (NYSED). The School has been informed by ACPE that the review will occur during Spring 2021 with final action by the ACPE Board at its June 16-18, 2021 meeting.
The School will inform all applicants, accepted students, and pertinent stakeholders of ACPE’s and NYSED's action as soon as they are known. If ACPE and NYSED approve the online pathway, students admitted will matriculate into the online pathway as planned beginning August 23, 2021. If the pathway is not approved, admitted students will be offered a seat in the School’s campus-based pathway that begins August 9, 2021.
The 3-year online pathway is an accelerated program in calendar and not curricular content. It will span 3 calendar years and utilize a trimester system for a total of 9 academic trimesters. The didactic component of the curriculum will occur during trimesters 1-6; each of these trimesters will be comprised of 14 weeks of online learning followed by one week of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and one week of on-campus laboratory skills assessments. Trimesters 7-9 will encompass the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) that include 4 core and 2 elective six-week rotations, as well as a review course to prepare students for licensure. Students will be taught to communicate effectively with patients and other health care practitioners, to solve problems related to drug therapies and to improve the health of the communities they serve.
The DYSOP will provide for an inclusive environment that offers online students the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities including professional fraternities, student organizations, and service initiatives.
