Program Description

The South College School of Pharmacy located in Knoxville, Tennessee offers a unique 3-year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum and is the first and remains the only exclusively accelerated PharmD program in Tennessee.

A supportive environment is offered to students including a student-centered faculty who pride themselves on their accessibility to students.
The South College School of Pharmacy curriculum entails 2 years of didactic coursework, followed by 9 months of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE). Students are provided the option to pursue out-of-area rotations for IPPE & APPE rotations. The South College School of Pharmacy is proud to partner with a variety of IPPE & APPE sites located across the United States.

All pre-requisite coursework must be completed at a college or university that is accredited by a regional accreditation agency that is recognized by the US Department of Education. International coursework will be accepted if evaluated by a credential evaluation service that is accepted by PharmCAS. For applicants who have successfully completed a bachelor's degree, the pre-requisite requirements of speech communication and economics can be considered for substitution if competency in these content areas can be sufficiently demonstrated throughout the application and/or interview process. It is preferred that all science pre-requisite coursework be completed within 7 years of the application cycle.

The South College School of Pharmacy strongly prefers three letters of recommendation. Two letters of recommendation are required. One letter must be submitted by a faculty member who taught the applicant in the pre-pharmacy curriculum. It is preferred that one letter be submitted by a pharmacist who supervised the applicant in an employee or volunteer capacity. One letter may be submitted by any person chosen by the applicant, except that the letter may not be from a member of the applicant's family, whether related by blood or marriage.

SCSOP conducts small-group interview days for selected applicants. During the interview day, each candidate will participate in an individual interview with 1-2 interviewers. Applicants may choose between a virtual or on-campus interview format, with all virtual interviews conducted synchronously and requiring real-time interaction with South College School of Pharmacy faculty members. In addition to the formal interview, applicants will have opportunities to engage with current students, participate in campus visits, and ask questions related to experiential education and program expectations as desired. Please note that not all applicants will be invited to interview, and receiving an interview invitation does not guarantee admission.
