Students have the opportunity to take select MBA coursework for free during specific quarters of the Doctor of Pharmacy program. Students can then continue to completion of the MBA degree following graduation from the Doctor of Pharmacy program. MBA coursework completed following graduation is at a reduced cost.

Program Description

The South College School of Pharmacy is located in Knoxville, Tennessee and offers a unique 3-year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum. South College School of Pharmacy is the original, and remains the only, exclusively accelerated PharmD program in Tennessee. A supportive environment is offered to students including accessible faculty who pride themselves on availability to students, the curricular options to meet individual student interest through research options and rotation preferences, and a student body who is actively involved in the community. The School of Pharmacy enjoys a diverse student body that contributes to understanding the needs of diverse populations served.

The South College School of Pharmacy curriculum entails 2 years of didactic coursework, followed by 9 months of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE). Students can complete their entire curriculum in Knoxville, TN or choose the option to pursue out-of-area rotations for some IPPE and APPE rotations. The South College School of Pharmacy is proud to partner with a variety of IPPE and APPE sites located across the United States. Available options for students to consider in their studies include a research concentration, clinical research certificate, and the option to start a MBA degree for completion following graduation at a reduced cost.

All pre-requisite coursework must be completed at a college or university that is accredited by a regional accreditation agency that is recognized by the US Department of Education. International coursework will be accepted if evaluated by a credential evaluation service that is accepted by PharmCAS. For applicants who have successfully completed a bachelor's degree, the pre-requisite requirements of speech communication and economics can be considered for substitution if competency in these content areas can be sufficiently demonstrated throughout the application and/or interview process. It is preferred that all science pre-requisite coursework be completed within 7 years of the application cycle.

The South College School of Pharmacy strongly prefers three letters of recommendation. Two letters of recommendation are required. One letter must be submitted by a faculty member who taught the applicant in the pre-pharmacy curriculum or the applicant's pre-professional advisor at the college or university where the applicant completed the pre-pharmacy curriculum. It is preferred that one letter be submitted by a pharmacist who supervised the applicant in an employee or volunteer capacity. One letter may be submitted by any person chosen by the applicant, except that the letter may not be from a member of the applicant's family, whether related by blood or marriage.

For a portion of the interview day, applicants will have an individual interview with either one or two interviewers. On-campus interviews are preferred, but the South College School of Pharmacy will consider interviews conducted via video calling software in certain situations. Not all applicants will be extended an offer to interview, and offering of an interview is not an indication that the applicant will be accepted.
