Program Description
As the state's flagship health science research institution, the mission of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy is to prepare tomorrow's pharmacy leaders and advocates for the profession. The curriculum strongly supports graduates who desire to continue their education through residencies or other postgraduate training, as well as those who plan to enter practice directly after graduation. Our main campus resides in Memphis on the University of Tennessee’s Health Science Center campus, with additional campuses located in Nashville and Knoxville. The college continues to be ranked in the top 20 of all colleges of pharmacy nationwide, and graduates consistently score greater than the national and state averages on board exam pass rates.
The integrated curriculum introduces therapeutics-based courses in the P1 year, 11 APPEs beginning in the P3 year, and provides students more exposure to clinical rotations across the state and beyond; clinical simulation, utilizing standardized patients, task trainers, high-fidelity patient simulators, and virtual reality; interprofessional experiences and team-based training. 190+ top experiential sites include St. Jude's Research Hospital, Vanderbilt University hospitals, and UT Medical Center.
In addition to our traditional four year pathway, the college now offers the Immersive PharmD Accelerated Track (ImPAcT), allowing students the opportunity to complete the PharmD in three years (same courses, assessments, and credit hours [148.5 hours] as the four-year pathway) by shortening breaks and redistributing courses.
Pharmacy Based Immunization Delivery, Medication Therapy Management, and Point of Care certificates are included within the curriculum. Students may pursue dual-certificate programs in Nuclear Pharmacy, Leadership Exploration and Ability Development, Health Informatics and Information Management, and Rural Health or choose from dozens of pharmacy electives.
